What is CompTIA A+ Certification?
What is CompTIA A+ certification? Put simply, a CompTIA A+ certification is an entry-level qualification for computer support technicians that demonstrates their competence in PC repair and maintenance. It is one of the most popular and widely recognised qualifications of its kind in the world.
The CompTIA A+ certification is sponsored by CompTIA (the Computing Technology Industry Association), a group that comprises many of the world’s leading IT companies. While CompTIA sponsor a number of certification, the A+ certification is the most general, making it ideal for those at the start of their careers in IT support.
If this is a career path you’re interested in, you might want to sign up to a CompTIA A+ course. But what exactly will you learn? Here, we lay out all the facts.
WHAT WILL I LEARN ON A COMPTIA A+ COURSE?
By completing a CompTIA A+ course, you’ll learn everything you need to begin a career in computer support – from the ins and outs of PC repair and maintenance, to the best ways to provide support to computer users.
To obtain CompTIA A+ certification, you will need to pass two exams. One tests your knowledge of PC hardware and peripherals, mobile device hardware, networking and troubleshooting hardware, and network connectivity issues. The other covers computer security, the fundamentals of cloud computing and operational procedures, and the installation and configuration of operating systems.
A CompTIA A+ course is targeted at students who have between six to 12 months of experience working in the IT support industry. However, this is not a requirement. Anyone can sign up for a CompTIA A+ course – and obtain CompTIA A+ certification – provided they have good user-level PC skills and access to equipment for practical exercises.
WHAT JOBS CAN I GET WITH A COMPTIA A+ CERTIFICATION?
A CompTIA A+ certification paves the way to a future in the IT support sector. Many individuals with the qualification go on to find work as technical support specialists, field service technicians, IT support technicians, IT support administrators, and more.
A CompTIA A+ can be useful for a complete beginner looking to gain their first job in the sector; an early-career computer support technician looking to demonstrate their knowledge and access new opportunities; or an IT professional who currently works outside tech support but would like to gain skills in that area.
