The Health & Social Care - CACHE Level 2 Certificate (RQF) Online Course teaches the fundamental principles of Health and Social Care. The course covers Key subject areas and is mapped to the standards within the Care Certificate and National Occupational Standards. Students don't need a work placement to complete this course although a 30 hours or more work placement or previous experience in this sector would be beneficial in supporting your learning. An Extended Diploma qualification is also available allowing learners to pursue additional interests and progression paths.

Achieving this certificate qualification can offer successful candidates a valuable first step towards a rewarding career in one of society’s most vital sectors. This qualification could also be beneficial for students wanting to progress onto a Level 3 Diploma qualification or those already working within a health or social care setting.

On successful completion of this course students will receive an NCFE CACHE Level 2 RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework) Certificate Qualification. This is a graded qualification (A*/A/B/C/D).

Course Format & Delivery

You will receive access to the course materials through an online portal for a 12-month period. Students can use the portal for accessing their course materials, submitting assignments and to log tutor questions.

Please Note: An optional hard-copy book version of the course notes can also be purchased for £48.00.

This is handy if learners also want to work away from the computer and means they have course notes they can keep and refer back to beyond their online course license.

Delivery of the hard-copy materiuals is usually within 5 to 10 day working days.

Unit Objectives:

  • Understanding equality, diversity and inclusion in health and social care.
  • Understanding discrimination.
  • Understanding person-centred practice.

The following topics are covered: The terms: equality, diversity and inclusion; Legislation, policies, procedures and codes of practice in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion; How the health and social care practitioner contributes to inclusive practice; Types of discrimination; Approaches to challenge discrimination; How the health and social care practitioner’s own values, beliefs and experiences can influence delivery of care; The concept of person-centred practice; How person-centred practice is used to support individuals; Impacts of person-centred practice on individuals; and Ethical dilemmas that may arise when balancing individuals’ rights and duty of care.

Unit Objectives:

  • Understand human growth and development across the lifespan.
  • Understand infl uences which impact upon human growth and development.
  • Understand signifi cant life events across the lifespan.
  • Understand how health and social care services meet the care needs of individuals through the lifespan.

The following topics are covered: The life stages of human growth and development; Social, emotional, cognitive and physical development within each life stage; Holistic development; The nature versus nurture debate in relation to human growth and development; The medical model of health and well-being; Factors which impact upon human growth and development; The importance of recognising and responding to concerns regarding an individual’s growth and development; Signifi cant life events across the life stages; The impact that signifi cant life events may have on an individual; Care needs of individuals through the life stages; How health and social care services meet the care needs of individuals through the life stages.

Unit Objectives:

  • Understand legislation, policies, procedures and codes of practice in relation to safeguarding and protection.
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the health and social care practitioner in relation to safeguarding.
  • Understand types of abuse.
  • Understand action to be taken by the health and social care practitioner in response to evidence or concerns that an individual is at risk or has been harmed or abused.
  • Understand the benefi ts of working in partnership in relation to safeguarding and protection.

The following topics are covered: Safeguarding; Legislation, policies, procedures and codes of practice in relation to the safeguarding and protection of children and young people and adults; How the health and social care practitioner safeguards individuals; How the health and social care practitioner safeguards themselves; Types of abuse: self-neglect, physical, emotional, sexual, domestic, financial and institutional Bullying; Signs, symptoms, indicators and behaviours which may cause concern; Factors which contribute to an individual being vulnerable to harm or abuse; Actions to take if harm or abuse is suspected or disclosed; The responsibilities of the health and social care practitioner in relation to whistleblowing; The boundaries of confidentiality in relation to the safeguarding, protection and well-being of individuals; and The benefits of working in partnership in relation to safeguarding and protection.

Prerequisites

There are no particular qualification entry requirements to start studying.

Course Duration & Online Support

You can start this course at any time, and you would be registered for a one-year period. You also have access to a personal tutor who can be contacted by email. Your tutor is available to assist with any queries and to mark your assignments for the Awarding Body.

As the course is self-study, you can complete it as quickly as you like. Support extensions are available if students do not complete the course within the one-year period.

Assessment

The course contains three units and subsections, each of which contains lessons, activities and test papers. You will be assessed by a series of written assignments, marked by your tutor.

CACHE Level 2 Certificate Qualification

The Qualification is gained from your coursework so there is no exam to complete. On successful completion, students will gain an NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care.

This qualification has been accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (Ofqual Qualification Number - 601/8854/6). This is a Level 2 Certificate Qualification.
