Gain a Vocational Level 2 Health Care Diploma Qualification

The Care - Level 2 Diploma (RQF) Course is suitable for any individual currently working as a care provider or wanting to start a career in the care sector. Health and social care can cover a wide range of service users who have different levels and types of care.

This qualification was launched in 2018 and replaces the older Health & Social Care - Level 2 Diploma (QCF) which had previously replaced the older NVQ Qualifications.

It is very important to understand the specific roles that must be undertaken as a carer and this course explores both the mental and physical support of service users. Students can expect to learn more about the role of the health and social care worker, the key principles of safeguarding and protecting in health and social care, the causes and spread of infection, the duty of care in health and social care settings, and much more! The purpose of the qualification is to support the carer’s role in the workplace and to enable them to progress to higher level qualifications.

Please Note: To complete this vocational qualification, learners must complete workplace components where they will demonstrate their practical experience. The work placement must be in a UK health care setting (excluding Northern Ireland). As part of the placement, you must have a qualified workplace supervisor who can observe you and sign off work and in addition you will also need to be able to partake in remote and in-person observations by a course assessor.

The underpinning knowledge sections of this qualification have been fully updated to include the latest Acts of Parliament, government guidelines and Codes of Practice, including:

  • Care Act (2014) and subsequent amendments
  • Fundamental Standards 2015
  • Duty of Candour
  • New principles of independent advocacy
  • Revised Audit Processes, following the publication of the Caldicott Report (2015)
  • The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
  • Skills for Care’s updated CPD guide
  • Updates to the requirements for Care and Support Plans
  • Updates to definitions of the balance between risk assessment, risk-taking and rights and responsibilities

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a TQUK Level 2 Diploma (RQF) Qualification with 46 Credits.

Work Placement Requirements

Students will require a suitable UK-Based Work Placement (Excluding Northern Ireland) to complete this course. This could be a full time or part time position and it can be through employment or through voluntary work for a set number of days per week. It is recommended that students have the placement for the duration of their studies.

The placement needs to be sufficient to enable students to gather the required workplace evidence for each of the course units detailed below, and the work will need to be signed off by an appropriate person (Manager or Supervisor) within the organisation through witness testimonies. The workplace supervisor will need a relevant qualification at a higher level than the course being studied in order to be able to assess the learners' competence. Students will also need to arrange remote and in-person observations with the course assessment team.

Students who can't arrange a suitable placement should consider one of the CACHE (RQF) Qualifications which are theory-based:
